Confused about my ex?

So my boyfriend split up with me 2 and half weeks ago because he didnt think we were working anymore. But he keeps trying to talk to me, he phoned me to chat, then asked to meet up, then talks to me on facebook chat like three times and called me twice when drunk and didnt make sense, then texted me to apologise for hurting me. I dont know what he wants from me, can anyone tell me? He said he didnt think it was right for us to go back out though.
