Why did the freed Hebrew slaves want to go back to Egypt, as bad as it had been?

In the Old Testament, there was a time when the Hebrews wanted to return to Egypt in spite of all that The Livng God had done for them. For that matter, why do I also return to the bondage that I was taken out of??
