Ex-husband assumed this 4th of July weekend was his. It's not. Now he's filing paperwork with the courts.?
When the courts are involved things get a lot more intense. The courts will definitely make you split the driving. Normally one parents drops off and the other picks up. Also, now more than ever, fathers have more rights than they used to. Most likely what will happen if it goes to court is that one parent gets the kids for the school year and the other gets them for summer or every other weekend including holidays and summer. Either way, his chance of getting the entire summer is EXTREMELY high since you have the kids during the school year. I think it is best if you two worked it out without going to court. If the court does make a ruling, it will be a pain in the rear to have to go back and change the custody arrangements once it is already made. Just let him take the kids for this weekend and save yourself the headache. Good luck!!
