Why is Sarah Palin so appealing to people?

I see her as an unintelligent woman who is seeking fame rather than someone who would take her role in government seriously. Why would someone who is serious about politics start her own reality show? What is her appeal? And does she really represent the Republican Party or does she appeal more to the more extreme right ring people? I am not trying to incite hate here I am just genuinely curious.
